Scope and Contents

The memorandum records a meeting between Governor Overton James, Chief of the Chickasaw Tribe, and others to discuss problems faced by the tribe. Issues raised include legislation for a land dispute with the Cherokee Tribe, concerns about the survey of land riparian to the Arkansas River, the retirement of the Muskogee Area Director of BIA, and the impact of the Revenue Sharing program on Oklahoma Indian Tribes. The meeting also addressed the appointment of a new Area Director and tribal input on the matter. Governor James expressed concerns about tribal funding under the Revenue Sharing program, and the group agreed to follow up on the issues discussed.
