The Impact of the Administrations Plan on Title IV, the Indian Education Act, 1983-02-22

Archie L. Mason, Jr., the Project Director of Title IV-A in Tulsa Public Schools, presented a statement to the Elementary and Secondary Sub-Committee of Education and Labor. He expressed his concerns about the Administrations plan to reduce the budget for Title IV, the Indian Education Act, and ultimately terminate it. Mason argued that this plan would have a tragic impact on Indian education. He highlighted the importance of Indian education programs and the specific needs of Indian students. He also discussed the success of the Tulsa Title IV-A project and the positive outcomes it has achieved. Mason warned that if the Administrations plan is implemented, the Tulsa project would cease and services for Indian students would be significantly reduced. He disagreed with the Administrations belief that Indian children could be absorbed into other federal programs, as he believed these programs would struggle to meet the unique needs of Indian students.
