The text contains a letter from carl e. Pittman to the commission of five civilized tribes, in which he requests information about his great-grandmother, Sallie a. Vaughan. Vaughan attempted to register as a Choctaw Indian under the treaty of 1830, but was denied by colonel William Ward. Pittman asks why Vaughan was not allowed to register, and whether or not colonel ward was a legitimate colonel in the us army.
