The Pawnee Indians Win Back Their Land
Scope and Contents
The oklahoma supreme court has awarded Meramec lake to a group of Pawnee Indians after years of litigation. The lake is located on an 80-acre tract northwest of the town of Meramec, and has been used as a recreation playground and sportsman's center for many years. Duck hunting and fishing have attracted many visitors to the lake each year. The suit was originally filed by Tulsa attorney john wheeler on behalf of the Pawnee heirs, and was later taken up by a Pawnee law firm. The recent judgment upholds judge greens original decision.
