You know, in each of us is a special love for our home and for our neighbors, the people who live next door to us, and a kind of brotherly love for our fellow men and women, people we may not know who live in other neighborhoods. We hear about a hardship in someone else's life, and because we feel for that person, we can respond with our hearts. 37 million of us are without health insurance. If they were sick or if they had a sick child, what would they do? And if they lived next door to you and asked you for your help, what would you do? When you face the choice to help or not to help, you find the stuff that keeps nations and neighborhoods together. I think the Republicans have underestimated America's capacity to care, because I don't think anyone, given the chance to help, would turn away. We're better people than that.
