Bob Dole says that President Reagan calls him to get things done. But under Bob Dole's leadership, we lost the Bork nomination. And in 16 of the 34 votes Reagan lost in the Senate, Dole couldn't deliver even half of the Republicans. Senate Republican support for the president hit an all-time low in 1987, when even Senator Dole failed to support him almost 30% of the time. So when President Reagan wanted a vice president he could count on, he didn't call Bob Dole. He called George Bush.
