Hello, my name is John Kennedy. I live in one of the oldest cities in the United States, and I believe that these problems that our cities face really are one of the most important, if undiscussed, problems that now faces our great country. Most of our people live in cities. Many of those cities are old. The housing is old. The schools are crowded. The teachers are inadequately compensated. The streets are narrow. We can't stand the great transportation mass which we now have in the center of our cities at the rush hour. If our cities are going to maintain their vitality, if they're going to remain a good place in which to live, if our property taxes are going to remain in reason, then we're going to have to go to work, the community, the state, the national government. I believe we should create a Department of Urban Affairs for housing, transportation, and all the rest, and begin to move our cities forward again. Vote for John F. Kennedy for president.
