Senator Henry M. Jackson on crime. I think we have to do something about crime in this country. I'll tell you, the people that are hit are the old folks who are helpless, who have been mugged, assaulted. If I were president of the United States, anyone charged with a crime of violence, a felony, I would insist that they be brought to trial within 60 days. I think it's a tragedy that people can be out on bail for months and years without being brought to trial and while out on bail, commit more crimes. I want to make it possible for black people, for white people, for all Americans to be able to walk on the streets of America without being assaulted, robbed, mugged, and what have you. Senator Jackson makes good sense. He'd make a good president.
