Senator John Tower of Texas. Fellow Texans, the recently passed Civil Rights Act was a coldly calculated and shrewdly drawn measure. It was designed to appeal to minority block votes, particularly in industrial sections of the East. But it has application all over the United States and will be of particular importance to job holders in this area. I say it was shrewdly drawn for this reason. The section dealing with employment, for instance, will go into effect next year after the general elections of this year. At first, it will affect only those employees working in larger companies with 1 men or more. But then it changes. Each year, its effect becomes greater until it affects companies with only 25 employees. Now, this is the salami technique, whittling away your rights slowly so you won't notice it until it hits you personally. Do you want to vote for an administration that plays politics with your rights and your job? If not, vote for a government that will make sure that you get the job. Vote for Barry Goldwater on November 3rd. Vote for Barry Goldwater. In your heart, you know he's right.
