Scope and Contents
In the letter, LaDonna Harris expresses her concern that Indian students in Lawton, Oklahoma are being denied schooling because of their long hair. She argues that this is an outdated way of thinking, and that Indian students should be encouraged to wear their hair in a way that is meaningful to them. Harris also suggests that the school system should do more to promote an understanding and pride in the contribution that American Indians have made to the community.
