Response to Allegations of Unfair Treatment at Public Health Service Indian Facilities in Oklahoma, 1963-10-26

Scope and Contents

Miss Shirley Davilla wrote a letter to Honorable Mike Monroney on October 26, 1963, stating that many Indians in Oklahoma do not receive benefits from the Public Health Service Indian health clinic in Anadarko and the Public Health Service Hospital in Lawton. In response, Honorable Mike Monroney wrote back on October 29, 1963, thanking Miss Davilla for her letter and stating that the Indian health facilities are operated under strict regulations, but medical care and treatment can be obtained by those who meet eligibility requirements. He offered to investigate any cases of Indians being denied medical attention to ensure they receive the benefits to which they are entitled.
