Scope and Contents

The United States Government is holding an auction sale of Indian timber land in the Choctaw Nation on May 6, 1937. The regulations state that the land, totaling 22,894.55 acres, will be sold in one unit at public auction. No cutting or removal of timber or minerals is allowed until final payment is made. The terms of sale include a 25% cash payment at the time of sale and three equal annual installments with interest. Successful bidders will receive a Certificate of Purchase and a deed once full payment is made. The advertisement lists the tracts of land available for sale and their estimated values from 1912. Prospective purchasers are advised to verify the current amount of timber on the land. For more information, interested parties can contact the Superintendent for the Five Civilized Tribes.
