Correspondence between Leon S. Hirsh and Virginia Smith Regarding Land Rights of Five Civilized Tribes, 1936-11-13

Scope and Contents

Leon S. Hirsh writes to Senator Elmer Thomas requesting assistance in a legal matter involving oil wells on tribal lands. He proposes a lawsuit to recover funds for the Choctaw and Chickasaw Tribes. Hirsh expresses a desire for a part-time position with the Department of Justice to pursue the case and suggests that Thomas could benefit from association with the litigation. Virginia Smith, on behalf of Senator Thomas, acknowledges receipt of the letter and assures that it will be brought to Thomas's attention upon his return to Washington.
