Correspondence Between U.S. Senator and Native American Citizen Regarding the Sale of Indian Lands in 1937, 1937-07-12

Scope and Contents

Henry Pratt, an Indian citizen, wrote a letter to U.S. Senator Elmer Thomas expressing concern over the sale of valuable timbered lands in Oklahoma without proper consideration of its actual value. Pratt requested the postponement of the sale until an investigation and adjustment of the timber removal from the land had been made, and emphasized the need to reserve mineral rights on the property. Senator Thomas assured Pratt that he had filed protests regarding the sale with the Indian Office and would do what he could to help.
