Correspondence on the Sale of Indian Lands in Oklahoma: A Letter from an Indian Citizen to Senator Elmer Thomas, 1937-07-16

Scope and Contents

The letter is from Mr. Tayl expressing concern about the sale of valuable timbered lands in Oklahoma by the Department of Interior. He believes that the land is being sold at an unfair value without considering the additional cost value due to the growth of the timber. Tayl requests that the sale be postponed until an investigation is conducted and the mineral rights are reserved. Senator Elmer Thomas assures Tayl that he will do what he can to help and is working with Chief Durant of the Choctaw Tribe to benefit Indian citizens.
