1937 Correspondence Regarding the Sale of Indigenous Lands in Oklahoma, 1937-07-10

Scope and Contents

The letter is a request from an Indian to U.S. Senator Elmer Thomas to postpone the sale of valuable timbered lands in the Eastern part of the state, as the timber has grown in value since its appraisal in 1912 and the government has neglected to protect it. The Indian also requests that mineral rights be reserved and an investigation be conducted before the sale proceeds. Senator Thomas responds, assuring that he will do what he can to help.
