Scope and Contents

The text consists of a series of letters between Senator Elmer Thomas, John Craig, and the Assistant Commissioner of Indian Affairs regarding the illegal cutting of timber from land belonging to the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations. Senator Thomas promises to address the issue with the Indian Office and the officials of the Choctaw Nation. Craig expresses interest in purchasing the remaining tribal timber lands and requests that his offer be transmitted to the proper officials. The Assistant Commissioner of Indian Affairs acknowledges Craig's offer and states that if the tribal timber lands are to be sold, he will be provided with a copy of the advertisement to submit a bid.
