Correspondence Regarding the Sale of Indian Lands in 1937, 1937-05-01

Scope and Contents

Connell writes to Senator Elmer Thomas regarding the pending sale of Indian lands in the Choctaw Nation. He expresses concerns about the lands being sold as one unit and requests that separate units be allowed for sale to benefit small sawmill men, timber dealers, and Indian citizens. He asks for the Senate Indian Affairs Committee to consider allowing bids on the lands in separate units. Senator Thomas responds, assuring Connell that he will look into the matter and work towards a satisfactory adjustment.
