Letter to Senator Elmer Thomas Regarding Unfair Sale of Indian Timber Lands, 1937-01-01 - 1937-12-31
Scope and Contents
Rose Alexander, a concerned Indian, is writing to Honorable Elmer Thomas, U.S. Senator and Chairman on Indian Affairs, expressing her concerns about the sale of valuable timbered lands in the Eastern part of the state. She believes that the timber has increased in value since it was appraised in 1912 and should not be sold at the same price. She also raises concerns about the government neglecting the timber on the land and allowing people to remove it for commercial purposes. Alexander requests that the sale be postponed until an investigation and adjustment of the timber removal has been made, and that mineral rights on the land be reserved.
