1936 Letter on the Financing of Choctaw and Chickasaw Indian Schools and Hospital, 1935-01-01 - 1936-12-31

Scope and Contents

The letter addresses the inquiry about how Indian schools are financed since the funds of the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes have been exhausted. It explains that the former tribal boarding schools are now supported by annual appropriations of Federal funds, and no tribal money is used for them. Additionally, the Government pays for the tuition of Indian children attending public schools and supports day schools for their benefit. The Indian hospital at Lawton is also supported by annual Federal funds.
