Scope and Contents

Senator Elmer Thomas received a letter from John Jones of Keota, Oklahoma regarding a suit involving the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes and the Choctaw-Chickasaw Electric Railway Company. The Commissioner of Indian Affairs, William Zimmerman, responded, stating that there was no identified suit against the railway company mentioned by Jones. It was mentioned that a suit involving a railroad right of way strip and oil and gas leases was dismissed, and it may be necessary to bring a suit to clear title to the strip. Revenue from the disposal of the strip will belong to the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes unless determined otherwise by the courts. Jones' letter was returned to Senator Thomas with a copy of the response.
