Scope and Contents
J.L. Coffee writes to Senator Elmer Thomas regarding a settlement for the Chickasaw Tribe's asphalt and coal lands. Senator Thomas explains that a law was passed in 1944 for the government to purchase these deposits, and once a contract is drawn up and approved by the tribes, it will be sent to Congress for consideration. Senator Thomas assures Coffee that he is working to get the contract ratified and the necessary funds allocated. Coffee expresses his interest in the settlement and asks for information on the progress being made in Congress.
