Scope and Contents
Mrs. M. J. Wallace wrote to Senator Elmer Thomas regarding the provisions of the "Atoka Agreement" for the Chickasaw-Choctaw Tribes of Indians. Senator Thomas explains that a law was passed in 1944 for the government to purchase asphalt and coal deposits, and a contract is being drawn up for members of the tribes to consider and vote on. If approved, the contract will be sent to Congress for ratification. Senator Thomas assures Mrs. Wallace that he is working to get the tribal estate adjusted and appreciates her interest.
