Confirmation of Appointment for Newly Elected Principal Chief of the Choctaw Tribe , 1947
Scope and Contents
Mrs. David M. Hartshorne sent a petition to Congressman Carl Albert requesting the immediate appointment of Harry J.W. Belvin as Principal Chief of the Choctaws, following his election in a fair election. The Indian Office has confirmed Belvin's appointment for a four-year term starting in 1918. Congressman Albert's office acknowledged the petition and stated that they have notified the appropriate authorities of Belvin's appointment.
