Scope and Contents
The National Council of Women of the United States held an emergency meeting in August 1967 to address urban upheaval and the need for job training and housing programs. A coalition of leaders from various sectors was formed to recommend action programs in public service employment, private employment, education, housing, and urban development. The coalition urged the government to take immediate steps to address urban problems and push for civil rights legislation and anti-poverty programs. The NCW also organized a conference on women's role in influencing the city of tomorrow.
