LaDonna Harris, wife of Oklahoma Senator Fred Harris, is a Commanche Indian who is advocating for reform in government policies affecting American Indians. She believes that Indian culture has been suffocated by missions and government policies, and that more attention should be paid to their history and heritage. LaDonna Harris is president of Americans for Indian Opportunity and is working to raise awareness about the issues facing American Indians.
