Scope and Contents
Senator Fred Harris led a group of women from the War on Poverty to visit Resurrection City, where they were moved by the experience. Vice President Hubert Humphrey suggested a town meeting with the campers to address their grievances. The women were urged to take action in their own cities to fight poverty. Humphrey emphasized the need for equality and acceptance of differences in American society. Senator Harris spoke about the importance of making life better for children in poverty. The conference focused on addressing poverty and racism in America.
