Senator Fred R. Harris' Correspondence Regarding the Support for Higher Education for Native American Students, 1971-10-05
Scope and Contents
Mrs. Addie McCracken wrote to Senator Fred Harris regarding difficulties in obtaining funds for her daughter's education at Oklahoma State University. Senator Harris contacted the Bureau of Indian Affairs to look into the matter. The Bureau responded, explaining the challenges with funding delays but assuring that Miss McCracken would receive financial assistance. They also mentioned that many Indian students are receiving aid through the Higher Education Program. The Bureau assured that Miss McCracken's Social Security benefits and their assistance would enable her to attend college without financial strain.
