Preservation Efforts for the Osage Indian Language and Culture: A Letter to Senator Fred R. Harris, 1971-01-01 - 1971-12-31
Scope and Contents
A letter from Charles A. Tayrien to Senator Fred R. Harris requesting government funds to help preserve the Osage Indian language and customs. The Bureau of Indian Affairs responded, stating that funds had already been allocated to the University of Oklahoma for community development and adult education programs, including Osage language classes. The class had been meeting regularly and efforts were being made to continue the program. The Bureau expressed willingness to provide a follow-up report once a class was established and funding secured. Senator Harris was thanked for his inquiry and promised further updates on the matter.
