Scope and Contents

Federal funds intended for deprived Indian children have been misused by local officials for luxury equipment and to keep down school taxes. The NAACP's Legal Defense Fund and Harvard's Center for Law and Education conducted a study revealing the misuse of $66 million in federal funds meant for Indian children, including funds for free school lunches and transportation. The study also found instances of mistreatment and abuse of Indian children in schools, with allegations of racism and brutality towards Indian students.
