Scope and Contents

The letter is from the Office of American Indian Affairs in response to Senator Harris' inquiry about a proposal for an innovative concept in the education of American Indians submitted by the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts. The proposal is being reviewed and considered for funding by Dr. Paul Carnell, who administers a program for short-term higher education personnel training institutes. The Indian community of Oklahoma supports the proposal, which aims to involve Indian people with college instructors and professors to study Indian culture and develop Indian-oriented curricula. Applicants will be notified of the final decision by December 15. The director of the Office of American Indian Affairs, Helen M. Scheirbeck, offers further assistance if needed.
