Bureau of Indian Affairs Plans Major Restructuring and Workforce Reduction, 1972-01-01 - 1972-12-31
Scope and Contents
The Bureau of Indian Affairs is planning to reduce its workforce in Washington, possibly by as many as 350 employees, leaving only 100. The restructuring has the approval of the White House and Interior Secretary. The move comes after Indian demonstrators took over the BIA building, causing damage and leading to the evacuation of employees. The BIA is also working on repairing the building and recovering important documents. The cutback is expected to result in significant savings in salary.
