1949 Memorandum on the Distribution of Funds to Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations, 1949-10-27
Scope and Contents
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has made progress in distributing funds from the sale of tribal coal and asphalt lands to the Choctaw and Chickasaw nations. 10,450 living enrollees have been paid, with efforts being made to pay the remaining living enrollees before processing claims of heirs for inherited shares. Approximately 23,000 forms for application and proof of heirship have been mailed out, with plans to provide assistance to those who need help with their claims. The Bureau believes that the work is progressing well and payments to heirs will be made as quickly as possible.
