Inheritance Rights under Choctaw and Chickasaw Indian Law: A Correspondence, 1949-06-21

Scope and Contents

The letter is responding to an inquiry about whether a full blood Choctaw woman who married a white man under Indian law will receive her deceased husband's share of money for coal lands sold to the government. The response states that if the husband was enrolled as a member of the tribe and has no other heirs, the wife may receive his share. It is recommended to contact the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma for more information.
