Payment for the Sale of Choctaw and Chickasaw Coal Lands, 1949-06-27
Scope and Contents
Mrs. Lizzie Aikman wrote a letter to Carl Albert, M.C. regarding the delayed payment to the Choctaws and Chickasaws for the sale of their coal lands to the government. Carl Albert responded, stating that Congress has appropriated the money for payment, and the Indian Office is in the process of finalizing regulations for payment to living enrolled members. He assured Mrs. Aikman that she will be among the first to receive her check once the regulations are in place. Mrs. Aikman expressed concern about the delay in payment, as many Choctaw families are in need of the money.
