Correspondence Regarding Heirship Payments for Choctaw and Chickasaw Tribes, 1949-06-28
Scope and Contents
Mrs. Effie John has inquired about payments to heirs of deceased members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Tribes for coal and asphalt lands sold to the government. The proof of heirship notices will be sent out by the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma after living enrolled members are paid. Mrs. John, as an enrolled member, will receive her payment first before applying for heirship payment. Payments to living enrolled members are expected to begin in July. The deceased member's share will be divided equally among legal heirs, and the Agency will determine the amount each will receive. Congressman Carl Albert has provided this information and offered further assistance if needed.
