Negotiations over Coal and Asphalt Land Leases: A 1947 Letter from Representative Carl Albert, 1947-04-14
Scope and Contents
The letter is a response to Mr. T. H. Frazier and other Indian citizens regarding the coal and asphalt lands issue. The Tribal Officials and Department of Interior are having a meeting to come to an agreement. Bill Stigler has introduced a bill to extend lease terms, but it will not be pushed until negotiations are completed. The rights of the Indians are being protected, and the sender is willing to support the bill only if it does not affect the salability of the lands. The sender thanks Mr. Frazier for the letter and encourages further communication.
