Scope and Contents

Dr. Bill Carmack, Assistant Commissioner of Indian Affairs, has proposed that Indian tribes should be able to elect their Principal Chiefs. The Bureau has drawn up legislation for this, but some Chiefs have not yet responded. There are concerns about opposition from certain Chiefs, but overall there seems to be support for the idea. The Bureau is waiting for feedback from the Oklahoma delegation before proceeding.
