Scope and Contents

John O. Crow has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of the Bureau of Indian Affairs by Secretary of the Interior Rogers C.B. Morton. Crow has extensive experience in the Indian Bureau and is tasked with improving the management and operations of the Bureau to benefit American Indians. He aims to implement President Nixon's policy of "self-determination without termination" for Native Americans. Crow, who is one-fourth Cherokee, has a background in professional football and has received awards for his service in the civil service. Commissioner Louis Bruce praised Crow's knowledge, experience, and dedication.
