Scope and Contents

The Department of Interior is requiring an age limit of 30 for candidates for Chief in the Choctaw Indian elections, in an apparent attempt to make the Chief's opponent eligible to run against him. There have been discussions and attempts to find out the Department's intentions, with the Assistant Secretary stating that it was not their intent to discriminate against the Choctaws and that they should have a similar age limit to other Tribes.
