Scope and Contents
Mrs. Vivianne G. Driskell, a Cherokee woman from Oklahoma living in Omaha, wrote a letter to Hon. Fred R. Harris expressing her gratitude for his efforts in advocating for American Indians. She shared her experiences living among various Indian tribes and highlighted the importance of education and training for the Indian community. Mrs. Driskell criticized the mismanagement of funds by tribal leaders and suggested that scholarships for American Indians at state-supported universities would be more beneficial than tourist attractions or ineffective programs. She also mentioned her involvement with the DAR and her advocacy for Indian scholarships at the national level.
