Response to Senator Harris Regarding Indian Affairs and Scholarship Proposals, 1968-01-01 - 1968-12-31
Scope and Contents
The Bureau of Indian Affairs received a letter from Mrs. Driskell regarding Indian education and scholarships. They appreciate her interest and note that the Daughters of the American Revolution have been helpful in providing scholarships to Indian students. The Bureau recognizes individuals as Indian regardless of their blood degree if they are enrolled members of a tribe. Assistance for Indians not under the Bureau's jurisdiction must come from other sources. The government provides assistance programs for needy Indians on or near reservations. Mrs. Driskell's letter and a copy of Senator Harris's response are enclosed.
