Correspondence Regarding Indian Loan Information and Restrictions in 1966, 1966-10-04
Scope and Contents
Mrs. Jimmie B. Glatfelder requested information from Senator Fred R. Harris regarding loans to Indians for small businesses or homes. The Bureau of Indian Affairs reported that the funds for loans are currently limited, with legislation pending to increase the authorization. Loans can be made to applicants of at least one-quarter degree Indian blood who are unable to obtain financing elsewhere on reasonable terms. Mrs. Glatfelder was advised to keep in touch with the Area Director in Anadarko for updates on the availability of funds. Senator Harris acknowledged the request and promised to provide further information once he receives the report.
