Oklahoma Governor Criticizes Federal Anti-Poverty Program for Indian School, Advocates for Improvements, 1966-01-01 - 1966-12-31
Scope and Contents
Governor Henry Bellmon denied that the federal anti-poverty program in Oklahoma is being administered on a partisan basis and stated that it is being done to produce the best results for all citizens. He approved three neighborhood youth corps grants to provide part-time jobs for high school dropouts, but criticized a program at the Lawton-Fort Sill Indian School for only offering "menial tasks" to Indian youngsters. Bellmon recommended assigning them jobs with higher responsibility and intellectual stimulus.
