Correspondence Regarding Pipe Line Right-of-Way Across Mrs. Annie L. Nelson's Land - 1949, 1949-06-24

Scope and Contents

The document consists of a series of letters regarding a dispute over a pipeline right-of-way across the land of Mrs. Annie Lula Burris Nelson in Madill, Oklahoma. The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Five Civilized Tribes Agency were involved in resolving the issue, with the Franklin Oil Company being the party seeking the right-of-way. Despite attempts to explain and settle the matter, Mrs. Nelson refused to accept the amount offered as damages and right-of-way compensation. The letters show that legal action was considered but ultimately not pursued due to the Company meeting all Departmental requirements. Mrs. Nelson's suit against the Company for trespass was resolved in favor of the Company in State District Court. The letters indicate that no further action can be taken on behalf of Mrs. Nelson, as an equitable settlement was made by the Company.
