1949 Correspondence Regarding Property Sale by Fullblood Choctaw Indian, Gibson James, 1949-04-11
Scope and Contents
A father, Mr. Cleveland Sockey, is concerned about his son, J. D. Sockey, buying a house from a Choctaw Indian, Mr. Gibson James, which is restricted. He contacts U.S. Probate Attorney, Mr. Horace D. Payne, for help in resolving the matter and getting a satisfactory settlement. The General Superintendent advises Mr. Payne to work towards returning the money collected for the house as it cannot be delivered. Congressman Carl Albert is also involved in the correspondence. The case is being looked into by the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
