Correspondence Regarding 1929 Choctaw Per Capita Payments, 1949-01-01 - 1949-12-31
Scope and Contents
Mrs. Jessie Thompson wrote to Honorable Carl Albert, M. C., asking about the status of her deceased brother's 1929 Choctaw per capita payment. The Five Civilized Tribes Agency confirmed that both Mrs. Ellis and her son received their own $10.00 payment in 1930. The agency was not aware of the brother's death, but his payment was mailed out according to their records. Carl Albert reassured Mrs. Thompson that he would look into the matter further. Additionally, Carl Albert provided information about payments to enrolled members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes for coal lands sold to the government. Proof of heirship would be required for deceased members' heirs to receive payments. Lastly, a letter from a constituent expressed gratitude for the work of Carl Albert and Chief Jimmie Belvin in advocating for the community.
