Indian Land Rights: Progress in Freedom from Government Control, 1953-01-01 - 1953-12-31
Scope and Contents
Since statehood, progress has been made in freeing Indian citizens from government control. 15 million acres of land were allotted to members of the Five Civilized Tribes, but now only a small portion of that land is subject to restrictions. Approximately 12,000 Indians, mostly original allottees, still own restricted lands, and it is widely believed that legislation is necessary to protect them.
