Scope and Contents

Congressman Carl Albert introduced a bill, H.R. 6209, that allows Choctaw Indians to vote on the settlement of certain treaty payments, converting annual payments into a lump sum. If approved by a majority vote, funds will be distributed to enrolled Choctaws and their heirs. This bill is part of ongoing efforts to settle claims and obligations between the Choctaws and the United States Government.
