Opposition to Fair Employment Practice Act, 1945-05-15
Scope and Contents
Mr. G. H. Gates wrote a telegram to Congressman George B. Schwabe expressing concern about H.R. 2232, the Fair Employment Practice Act. Gates believes that the bill would harm business and employment. Schwabe responds by stating his opposition to the bill, as he believes it would create unnecessary bureaucracy and threaten free enterprise. He advises Gates to discuss the matter with Senator Elmer Thomas and other Democratic-New Deal members of the House. Schwabe also suggests using courts and due process of law instead of creating a new commission.
